How Graham Potter plans to overcome Chelsea challenges in 13 games before World Cup break

Chelsea head coach Graham Potter discussed his plans to overcome challenges before his side face Crystal Palace.

Chelsea head coach Graham Potter discussed his plans to overcome challenges ahead of the World Cup before his side face Crystal Palace in Premier League action.

The 47-year-old was appointed as the new head coach of Chelsea, replacing Thomas Tuchel earlier this month.

However, he has just played one match since his arrival, a 1-1 draw with FC Salzburg in the UEFA Champions League.

The passing of Queen Elizabeth, followed by an international break has seen a period without matches for the Blues as they look to transition under Potter.

The impact of this will see Chelsea play 13 matches in October, with Potter facing challenges from the start of his tenure at Stamford Bridge.

However, the head coach is refusing to complain at the congested fixture schedule he will face.

Speaking to the press ahead of Chelsea's trip to Crystal Palace, he admitted that he is looking forward to getting going despite the challenge ahaead.

When asked if waiting 23 days for his first Premier League match in charge of Chelsea is good or bad, he said: “Probably a bit of both if I'm honest.

"Used a bit of time to get to know people but at the same time we're itching to play.

"We couldn't control anything in terms of how things have panned out, we've had to make the most of it.”

Potter continued to reveal how Chelsea worked during the international break, with the majority of their squad away from Cobham ahead of the World Cup.

“We can do some thinking while they’re away, we can do some thinking, analysis," he continued.

"We have to start somewhere. Everybody is ready, looking forward to playing. It’s never easy picking a team.

"You have good players and options. We can deal with that.”

The head coach concluded by discussing the challenges ahead, playing 13 matches in October.

Potter refused to complain, revealing his plans for the coming weeks as he said: “Six weeks, 13 matches and quickly understanding the players, making sure we use them in the right way, winning football matches in the toughest league in the world and Champions League as well.”

The head coach is without a win in seven tries against Crystal Palace but will be hoping to pick up three points in his first league match in charge of Chelsea.
