WWE make major blunder after naming new female wrestler after adult film star

WWE appear to have made an awkward blunder after a new signing was given the same name as an adult film star.

Though a number of talents have been relieved of their duties in recent times, WWE have also been bringing in a fair amount of new signings - one being the capture of female wrestler Mariah May from rival AEW (All Elite Wrestling).

The 26-year-old, a one-time AEW's women's champion, left the company at the end of May and after her profile was removed from the website, she quickly signed with WWE.

The grappler made an eagerly-anticipated debut on NXT last week but while she retained her 'Glamour' persona - it was later confirmed this week in a Sabrina Carpenter-style vignette that her name had been changed to Blake Monroe.

The first name is a nod to her niece, while Monroe is a tribute to namesake Marilyn and her unmatched Hollywood career and rise to fame.

However, WWE might not have placed much thought into the name as it is also the same moniker used by an adult film star, who starred in Beefeaters 2 and Hustler Alley many years ago.

It is also the same stage name used by a woman who won 'Miss Burlesque United States 2017' and specialises in "aerial acrobatics, fire-play, and advanced pole-dancing".

Monroe, who once had a tryout for WWE and modelled for their shop, signed a deal with Paradigm agency to help bring further opportunities and is expected to make a big splash in the women's division in WWE.

WWE made name change after adult film reference

WWE do have previous for changing a name, having realised the connotations attached to the 'Submission Sorority' faction they created back in 2015.

All specialising in submission moves, Paige, Charlotte and Becky Lynch were given the title when they formed their trio but WWE found out that there were links to pornography.

TMZ reported that BangBros experienced a traffic increase of 56% and a 35% increase in subscriptions as a result and they were planning to send a thank you gift basket for the exposure.

WWE quickly moved to rename the team 'PCB', merely using the initials of each superstar.
