Former WWE star reveals she had to follow strict cleavage rule

The former WWE star said she felt it was a "form of objectification".

A former WWE star has revealed the "objectifying" cleavage policy she had to adhere to during her time with the company.

Scarlett Bordeaux had two stints in WWE alongside her real-life husband Karrion Kross, managing him and the Final Testament faction in the second spell.

Both Bordeaux and Kross departed in August after their contracts expired and there was no agreement on a fresh deal.

They have since been performing on the independent scene, but in a recent new interview, Bordeaux has opened up some of her frustrations during the run - specifically rules around her appearance and attire.

'The Smokeshow' adopted a sexually suggestive and seductive character who leaned into a provocative persona.

However, with WWE now a PG-rated product and a far cry from the bras and panties matches that many female talents were forced to take part in back in the day, she has since explained that she was not allowed to show cleavage on television.

Bordeaux found the approach to be a "different form of objectification" and one that limited her character.

"Telling a woman to take her clothes off is equivalent to saying cover up, basically," she stated on D-Von Dudley’s podcast alongside other half Kross.

"Like, just let me do what the hell I want to do, basically. So, you know, it’s just as bad to like, you know, it’s a different form of objectification.”

She added: "I won’t say who, but some of the producers, every single time, like, before going out there, they’d be like, Can you just cover up the cleavage? Can you just pull that down? I’m like, OK, this is clearly not what we’re going for right now. But uh, they really liked the idea of us two together, because after a few months, I’m like, what am I gonna do here? Because I thought they signed me for this character, and they said they liked it, but they don’t want to use it."

Ex WWE star explains why she is 'envious' of current female talent

WWE regularly cut to black screens in the event of any wardrobe malfunctions in matches, with the chaos of the Attitude Era and the depiction of women very much in the past.

However, the closest thing is the company's NXT brand, with the show ran by the legendary Shawn Michaels a little edgier and giving the women more leeway with what they can wear - according to Bordeaux.

In an appearance on Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette, Bordeaux stated: "The one thing I'm a little bit envious of is the girls now are allowed to be a little bit more sexy. That's the new thing with NXT 2.0.

"I had to scale it back. Even with clothes that would be really low cut and they'd look at me before going out and be like, 'you need a little mesh there.' 'Okay, let me go fix that.' I'd put on some mesh and pull down the shorts a little. Now, I don't think they have that rule anymore, so I'm a little jealous of that.

"It's fun to dress sexy and look sexy when no one is telling you to do it. If someone is trying to force you and telling you to take your clothes off, I would be like, 'Hell no,' but when it's me choosing my outfits and doing that stuff, it's super fun and cool for me."
