Kevin Trapp has admitted that he has rejected a 'written offer' from Manchester United and has detailed the reasons why he wants to stay at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Erik ten Hag is looking for a goalkeeper to challenge David de Gea this season following a rocky start to the Premier League campaign for the team and United's no.1.

Dean Henderson was loaned out to Nottingham Forest before the new Dutch manager had the chance to talk with him.

Trapp was identified as a possible option for the Red Devils, and they sent an offer for the goalkeeper.

He was important in Frankfurt's Europa League victory last season. He saved Aaron Ramsey's penalty, which was the difference between the Bundesliga side and Rangers on the night.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper has since spoken on the rumours of a move to Old Trafford.

"There have been a lot of reports of interest from Manchester United in the past few days. It is true that there is a written offer," he wrote in an Instagram post.

“Manchester United are a world-class team and the fact that I can deal with and think about such an offer, I hope everyone understands.

"Yesterday, however, I informed the people in charge of both clubs that I had chosen Eintracht.

"I have experienced unforgettable things here with Frankfurt and we made history together.

"The start to the season has been bumpy, but I have absolute faith in us."

This has left United searching elsewhere for a goalkeeper to challenge the Spaniard between the sticks.

Reports from the ever-reliable David Ornstein say that the Reds have made a loan offer for Martin Dubravka.

It is added that United are yet to reach an agreement with Newcastle for the 33-year-old.

He was left out of The Magpies' 2-1 Carabao Cup win over Tranmere Rovers. That was due to illness, however.
