David de Gea has already hinted at the prospect of a Manchester United return.

As per the Sun, United are considering making a move for long-serving keeper David de Gea.

The Old Trafford club are said to have been tipped off that the 34-year-old has a clause in his Fiorentina contract that could allow him to leave for a relatively small sum.

The publication added that discreet background calls were being made, upon De Gea having made a good impression upon his return to United for a friendly last weekend.

Indeed, after that game De Gea said that he may cross paths with United supporters again in future, which some have interpreted as the Spaniard hinting he may re-sign for the Manchester outfit.

De Gea said in a social media post: “A magical moment for me and my family to come back to Old Trafford — my home.

“From the bottom of my heart — I want to say thank you for the reception — for all the love you showed me.

“To the supporters that never stopped being with me throughout my time at this club. Our paths may cross again. We've seen it all!"

De Gea made 545 appearances for United between 2011 and 2023, and sits seventh in their list of all time appearances makers.

However, a contract dispute saw the player depart two summers ago on a free transfer, and be replaced by the £43.8m of Onana from Inter Milan.

De Gea was without a club for the entire 2023-24 season, but signed for Fiorentina last summer.

“I know it’s been some years at United where they have struggled a bit, but this is one of the best clubs in the world,” De Gea on his hopes for United in the upcoming season.

“It’s a massive club. Hopefully this year with the signings and the manager starting a new era, they can do something big.

“Let’s see, hopefully they can win something and be there where they deserve.”
