Jadon Sancho Gives Advice To Manchester United's New Signings Christian Eriksen & Lisandro Martinez

With Manchester United having announced three signings since Erik ten Hag took over the reins at Old Trafford, Jadon Sancho gave advice to new teammates Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez.

Ten Hag announced earlier in the week that Eriksen and Martinez would not be joining the United squad in Australia.

However, Malacia has been heavily involved in pre-season, featuring, and impressing in all three games so far.

Sancho himself experienced a difficult first season at Old Trafford, having joined an unsettled side who finished sixth in the league, playing under three different managers in the same season.

Last season, the 22-year-old scored just five times, registering three assists in 37 appearances.

On this summer’s signings, Sancho said: “My advice to them is just to keep playing how they’ve been playing for their previous clubs. It’s always difficult coming into a new team and adapting to a different style of play.”

Martinez has previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax, with the Dutchman the man who brought the Argentine to Europe, signing him for just €7 million from Defensa y Justicia in 2019.

Meanwhile Eriksen trained with Ten Hag’s side at the beginning of last season as the Dane made headway to get his career back on track after suffering a cardiac arrest at last summer’s Euros.

Malacia is a player also well-known to the new manager, with the former Feyenoord man coming up against Ten Hag’s side in the Eredivisie. 

On Malacia, Sancho said: “Tyrell has been great since he’s been here. I used to play against him in the national team as well, when I was younger, so I’ve known about him for a long time and I know he’s a great full-back.”

As for Sancho, he has scored twice in pre-season, bagging the opening goal of the tour against Liverpool, and finishing off a wonderfully worked move against Crystal Palace to make it 3-0.

In terms of the squad, Ten Hag has said he would like to bolster the squad in midfield and offensively, with another former Ajax player Antony heavily linked with a move to United.

According to Paul Hirst of the Times, one of the Brazilian’s representatives is understood to be in Manchester this week, though the Dutch champions are demanding a fee of €68 million.

United have also continuously been linked with a move for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman currently on tour in the USA with the Spanish club.

On the midfield situation, Ten Hag said: “We are looking for a player who can play in the holding midfield position. There are not many in that position capable of the level we demand.

"When we can’t find him, we have to deal with the players in our current squad now and we will develop one in that position.”
