Manchester United wingers Anthony Elanga & Amad have both been nominated for this year’s edition of the prestigious Golden Boy award.

Tuttosport today released the full list of 100 nominees for the 2022 Golden Boy award.

Amongst the nominees, were Manchester United wingers Amad & Anthony Elanga.

The 2022 edition of the Golden Boy award will mark the 20th time it has been handed out, and Elanga & Amad will face tough competition if they hope to win the award.

Names such as Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga, Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho, and Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch & Jamal Musiala all make up just some of the nominees.

Elanga has been nominated following his breakout season at United.

Despite making two appearances in the 2020/21 season, he would not become a regular part of the squad until this season. Making his first league appearance of the campaign off the bench in Ralf Rangnick’s debut game against Crystal Palace, he would become a starter for the club from January 2022.

Going forward from January, Elanga would remain a regular starter, as he contributed three goals and two assists across all competitions.

This included a goal against Leeds, where his late strike crushed any hope of a Leeds comeback in a 4-2 away win.

Also, his goal away to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League would keep the tie lively ahead of the home leg.

Since then Elanga has continued growing, recently scoring his first international goal for Sweden.

Amad spent much of this season struggling for first-team game time, before the nineteen-year-old took the initiative to push for a loan move to Rangers. Whilst at the Scottish giants, Amad would score three league goals in ten league appearances, despite only four of those appearances being starts.

The tricky forward would also play a part in Rangers’ Scottish Cup victory, starting the final of the competition, a match which Rangers would win 2-0.

The Golden Boy award was first handed out back in 2003.

In the time since then, there have been nineteen editions, three of which have been won by Manchester United players.

As a result of this, more Manchester United players have won the award than at any other club.

The three previous Red Devil winners were Wayne Rooney in 2004, Anderson in 2008, and Anthony Martial in 2015.

United fan for all my life. Old enough to remember our last league title, young enough to not remember it well.
