Pro MMA fighter fights three amateurs at once and there was a clear winner

Certainly not something you see every day.

A Spanish MMA event once saw three amateur fighters take on professional Eduardo Riego, and what followed was utterly bizarre.

In recent years, several left-field bouts involving combat sports athletes have been put together, with YouTuber-turned-boxer and promoter Jake Paul recently going up against former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in a boxing match back in December.

As expected, the Brit came out on top, breaking the American's jaw and leaving him needing surgery.

Meanwhile, crossover fights are now commonplace, with former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor's bout against Floyd Mayweather in 2017 arguably the catalyst for the surge in such contests.

Another recent example took place earlier this month as kickboxing legend Rico Verhoeven took on Oleksandr Usyk in Egypt, with the Dutchman losing by a controversial 11th-round stoppage despite being ahead on many fans' scorecards.

But what happens if you put three amateur MMA fighters up against one professional?

Back in 2024, this was put to the test at Dogfight Wild Tournament 2nd Impact in Tarragona, Spain.

Professional fighter Riego, who now boasts a record of seven wins and two losses from his nine professional contests, was tasked with facing three much smaller men – Manuel, Ivan and Tomas – in a rather stunning spectacle.

As the bell sounded, signalling the start of the fight, all three ran towards Riego before delivering a barrage of punches near the cage.

The professional then managed to rise to his feet as the onslaught continued before, against all odds, managing to free himself and launch an attack of his own on all three opponents.

Somehow, the Spaniard made it through the first round before submitting one of his three opponents via a guillotine choke in the second.

After the defeated opponent left the cage, Riego continued to fight on despite receiving several blows before once again submitting a second opponent.

One remained, but he did not last long as Riego's greater skill set shone through as he completed a rear-naked choke, prompting celebrations in the crowd.

A video of the contest was reposted on Saturday (May 30), prompting fans to offer their thoughts on the rare contest on social media.

One joked: "There's at least 50 per cent of the male population who have always wondered. And now we know. No. You cannot fight better than them."

Another added: "How the crowd didn't tear that cage down, wilding out is beyond me. What a crazy fight."

A third commented: "He's getting jumped by three amateurs and still takes them down back to back, controls the cage and beats them all with pure skill. Absolute domination in the wildest way."

While a fourth weighed in: "Bro, what country do I need to go to see an event like this?"
