Serena Williams predicted final score if she played Andy Murray in her prime in one-off male vs female match

Williams and Murray are two of tennis' biggest icons.

Serena Williams once predicted what the final score would be if she took on Andy Murray in a male versus female tennis singles match.

Williams is one of the greatest female players to ever play the sport, winning 23 Grand Slam singles titles across her career.

She made a comeback to tennis after her pregnancy in 2018 and reached a further four Grand Slam finals before retiring in 2022.

She won Wimbledon on seven occasions - making her the joint-second most-successful Open Era female player alongside Steffi Graf and behind Martina Navratilova (nine).

At the peak of her career, Williams spent 186 consecutive weeks as the number one-ranked player in the world.

Williams and her sister, Venus, won doubles gold at the Sydney 2000 - when they were just 18 and 19 years old - Athens 2004 and London 2012 Olympics, and the pair shared 30 Grand Slam titles between them over their careers.

In 2019, she teamed up with British tennis icon Murray to play in the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon 2019.

Though they lost in the third round, she said in a video message upon Murray's retirement last year that playing alongside the two-time Wimbledon winner was 'really one of the highlights of my life', and added: "I also hold a special place in my heart to you because you always speak out so much for women and everything that women deserve.

"You were the leader in that and the things you have spoken up about."

In 2013, Williams made a guest appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, where she spoke about her friendship with Murray.

At one stage in the interview, she spoke about the prospect of ever facing the Brit in a one-off male versus female match - and was unequivocal in what she believed the outcome would be.

"Andy Murray, he's been joking about myself and him playing a match," she explained.

"I'm like, 'Andy, seriously, are you kidding me?' For me, men's tennis and women's tennis are completely, almost two separate sports. If I were to play Andy Murray, I would lose 6-0, 6-0 in five to six minutes, maybe 10 minutes.

"No, it's true. It's a completely different sport. The men are a lot faster and they serve harder, they hit harder, it's just a different game. I love to play women's tennis. I only want to play girls, because I don't want to be embarrassed.

"I would not do the tour, I would not do Billie Jean [King] any disservice. So Andy, stop it. I'm not going to let you kill me."
