Kamil Majchrzak has responded after a fan was described 'disgusting' for what he did towards a child after his US Open second round match.

The Polish player defeated Karen Khachanov 2-6 6-7 4-6 5-7 6-7 in a five-set thriller on Court 11.

Majchrzak needed a tiebreak to secure his latest US Open victory, winning it by 10 points to five.

Seconds after the victory, the world number 88 - who has never gone beyond the fourth round of a Grand Slam - walked towards the edge of the court and engaged with the spectators in attendance.

Majchrzak was signing tennis balls when he took off his cap and handed it to a child who was courtside.

However, almost immediately, the man stood next to him snatched the hat and quickly put it in his female companion's bag.

The child could be seen pleading with the pair to give him the cap back, but they instead appeared to start laughing before the man instead handed him a pen.

The fan was described as 'disgusting' by viewers of the incident on social media, while another said: "I wish Kamil had noticed and called him out for it. Noticed how he got a ball signed already, then snatched a hat and still wanted another signature after on the water bottle. Don't be this guy ever!"

Although Majchrzak didn't spot the incident on-court, he was alerted to it afterwards after the clip went viral on social media.

And he has now taken to Instagram to respond, writing: "After the match I didn't record that my cap didn't get to the boy.

"Thanks to Asics [sponsor] I've got enough caps, so I'm prepared for that.

"Hey guys, could you help me find the kid from my match? If it's you (or your parents see this) please send me a DM."

Thankfully, the Pole posted a hour later: "I am so impressed by the power of the Internet. We got it! All good now."

Majchrzak will take on qualifier Leandro Riedi for a spot in round four, which would be his best-ever result at the US Open.

The 29-year-old previously reached the third round in 2019, losing in straight sets to Grigor Dimitrov.
