The incident occurred following Kamil Majchrzak's second-round victory over Karen Khachanov.

Fans have slammed a US Open spectator and called for him to be ‘banned’ for what he did following a second-round match on Thursday (August 28).

Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak defeated Russia’s Karen Khachanov on Court 11 at the US Open, while 2024 champion Jannik Sinner progressed after his victory over Alexei Popyrin. Carlos Alcaraz also advanced to the round of 32 with a win over Italian Mattia Bellucci.

On Saturday (August 29), veteran Novak Djokovic will take to the court to face Brit Cameron Norrie before Sinner returns to action against Denis Shapovalov later in the day.

And despite the talent on show at the tournament, it was what a fan did at court side following Majchrzak’s victory which got social media users talking.

As most players do following a win, the Pole began to engage with the spectators gathered at courtside before going on to sign autographs and exchange what appeared to be warm words with supporters.

He then began handing out pieces of his kit, including his navy blue cap, which he had worn during the match.

Majchrzak appeared to pass his cap to a young child, but before the youngster could grab it, it was snatched by an adult fan.

The child was visibly annoyed before gesturing towards the adult to give it back to him. However, the adult then swiftly placed the hat in a female companion’s bag.

A clip of the incident was posted online – which can be viewed below – and fans were quick to react on social media.

Kamil Majchrzak was trying to give his hat to a boy after his big win at the U.S. Open and the guy next to him snatches it and immediately hides it.

One said: “What a man-child. Disgusting and so disrespectful. I wish Kamil had noticed and called him out for it. Noticed how he got a ball signed already, then snatched a hat and still wanted another signature after on the water bottle. Don't be this guy ever!”

Another added: “If you’re a player and you’re giving something to someone… at least LOOK UP and make sure the person you’re giving it to gets it.

“Absolutely shameful behaviour from that guy. I hope @usopen takes a look at this footage and bans him from the stadium.”

A third claimed: “Absolutely disgusting.... I'm tired of seeing these obsessed grown adults behave in this manner.”
