Lamens had pulled off a brilliant drop shot, which looked like it was out of reach for Swiatek.
However, in a desperate attempt, the Polish star threw her racket in the direction of the ball, and it somehow managed to clear the net and land on her opponent's side.
The crowd gasped and cheered as they were left in shock.
However, Swiatek's efforts were in vain as the shot was deemed illegal.
The rules state that the player has to have the racket in hand at the moment of striking the ball.
In addition, Swiatek also touched the net after the ball went over to Lamens' side, which is another violation.
Swiatek is without doubt, one of the best players on the tour and recently, she claimed that she 'misses' being the underdog.
She said: "I just (tried) to play my best as an underdog. Honestly, it was pretty fun. I miss those days.
"I remember playing against Ash (Barty), I could feel how good she is when she was No. 1 and so solid. She really inspired me actually."
Swiatek added: "Being an underdog and being this upcoming player with this freshness that you have, I think it's great. It's a moment where you improve your game the most."
