World number one Carlos Alcaraz is set to lose a huge amount of his Japan Open prize money after beating Taylor Fritz.
Alcaraz, 22, was playing in his first tournament since suffering disappointment at the 2025 Laver Cup.
The Spaniard was beaten by Fritz 3-6, 2-6, in their Laver Cup clash in San Francisco, with Team World winning the tournament on home soil.
On Tuesday, Alcaraz got his revenge over Fritz in the final of the Japan Open as he won 6-4, 6-4 inside the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo.

During the match, Fritz, 27, twice required treatment for his left thigh.
Winning the Japan Open means that Alcaraz has now won eight ATP titles this season, and three since losing to rival Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon back in July.
Speaking after the final, Alcaraz said: "It’s been my best season so far without a doubt. Eight titles, 10 finals… That shows how hard I’ve worked just to be able to experience these moments and accomplish my goals.
"I didn’t start the year that good, struggling emotionally, so how I came back from that, I’m just really proud of myself, and of all the people around me who have helped me to be in this position."

The Spaniard added: "I’m really happy with the level that I played, with everything. Starting the week not good with the ankle, and the way that I came back from that, I’m just really happy about it."

How much prize money will Carlos Alcaraz receive?
As a result of winning the Japan Open, Alcaraz was handed a cheque for $416,365. However, he could be set to lose a large amount of the prize money.

This is because non-Japanese residents will be taxed for income generated in the country.
As per Wise, anyone who earned more than $310,000 will be taxed 45%, meaning Alcaraz will fall into that category.
Meanwhile, Alcaraz's rival, Sinner, is looking to win a title this week as he is set to face teenage American Learner Tien in the final of the China Open in Beijing on Wednesday.
