A damning stat has emerged after the mammoth semi-final clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev at the 2026 Australian Open.
Alcaraz was back in action on Friday as he looked to make it into the Australian Open final for the first time in his career.
Standing in his way was Zverev, who was the runner-up in 2025 when he lost to Jannik Sinner.
Having raced to a 2-0 lead, it looked like Alcaraz would cruise into Sunday's final. However, in the latter stages of the third set, the Spaniard began to struggle physically and was seen crouching down and holding his quad.

Alcaraz was then handed a medical timeout, which irked Zverev, who unleashed an X-rated rant at an official. After the drama, Zverev took the third and fourth sets, taking the match to a decider.
In the fifth and final set, Zverev earned an early break and had to dig deep to hold his own serve.
However, when serving for the match at 5-4, Zverev was broken by Alcaraz.
The Spaniard then produced moments of magic, taking the match by breaking Zverev again.
Eventually, Alcaraz came through by winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (3-7), 6-7 (4-7), 7-5.

A piece of history was also made, with the match lasting 5 hours and 27 minutes, which is now the longest semi-final in Australian Open history.
The previous record was Rafael Nadal's win over Fernando Verdasco in 2009, which lasted five hours and 14 minutes.
Following the match, a damning Zverev stat emerged on social media.
As per Opta Ace, Zverev has the lowest win rate against fellow ATP top 10 opponents at Grand Slam events.
The stat stated: "23.5 - Since the rankings were first published in 1973, Alexander Zverev (23.5%, 4-13) holds the lowest win rate of any player against fellow ATP top 10 opponents at GS events - minimum 10 matches."

Reacting on social media, fans were quick to praise both Zverev and Alcaraz.
One fan said: "Pure champion mentality. Zverev was brilliant, but Alcaraz’s fight till the final point is just unreal."
Another tweeted: "Pure class. Pure fight. Respect."
A third fan added: "Alexander Zverev didn’t lose this match he earned respect. Five hours against Carlos Alcaraz showed heart, grit, and true champion energy. Grand Slam will come, Sascha performances like this prove it."
