Tennis fans are all searching for the same answer after watching Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz at the Olympics.

On Saturday, the 2024 Paris Olympic tennis event got underway despite the horrible wet weather in the French capital.

Although there was no play on the outside courts, the two main stadiums had the roofs closed as the likes of Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek and home favourite Caroline Garcia were all in action.

In the evening, it was the turn of Spain’s doubles team made up of Nadal and Alcaraz.

In front of a jubilant crowd inside the Court Philippe-Chatrier, Nadal and Alcaraz managed to seal a place in the next round after winning 7-6, 6-4 against Argentina pair Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzalez.

Reacting on social media, the majority of tennis fans have been wondering whether Nadal will play in the singles event.

The 38-year-old is set to take on Hungarian Marton Fucsovics, with a potential round two clash against old foe Djokovic.

One fan said: “Never before i wanted Nadal to win a doubles this quick- he should make quick work of Fuscovics in singles - tennis needs the oldies match up one last time.”

Another tweeted: “I wonder if Nadal will play singles.”

A third fan added: “Will Nadal play singles? Let's see.”

Someone else wrote: “I hope to God that Nadal withdraws from singles and just saves his body for the doubles. They just might go all the way.”

A fifth commented: “We NEED to know whether Nadal is playing the singles or not. Hopeful of him vs Nole in round 2.”

Nadal played a key role in Friday night’s opening ceremony after he was handed the Olympic Flame by French football legend Zinedine Zidane.

The tennis great was then joined by the likes of Serena Williams, Carl Lewis and Nadia Comaneci as they sailed down the River Seine before handing the flame over to Amelie Mauresmo.
