A snooker star triumphed in a unique tournament this weekend and celebrated his victory by doing something that the commentators said they had never seen before.

The 2025 Snooker Shoot Out has taken place at the Tower Circus in Blackpool.

In a key difference to traditional snooker tournaments, this one is a series of only a single frame per match which has a maximum time of only 10 minutes.

The final saw Alfie Burden take on Stuart Bingham, with the winner's share of £50,000 up for grabs for the victor.

What made the victory an unexpected one was that Burden was not even originally supposed to take part in the tournament, and only got the call to enter it on Wednesday morning as a late call-up.

Speaking after the victory live on TNT Sports, Burden said: "I missed the call actually, I had to ring World Snooker back, so it was a good call to spot missed.

"I've had a 30-year career and it's been mostly downs. I've underperformed and that's mainly down to me, but tonight is a night for me.

"I'd like to thank all my family and close friends for the support and the belief that they've always had in me. This is a special moment for me and I'm going to cherish it."

In the aftermath of sealing his victory, Burden was congratulated by Bingham on his triumph, before he proceeded to do something which the TNT commentators said they had never seen before.

Burden got on the snooker table itself to celebrate his win with his arms aloft to the crowd, and the commentators gave their reaction to the celebration as Simply The Best by Tina Turner rang out.

Commentator David Hendon said: "Alfie Burden is the Shoot Out champion, what a fairy tale!

"He's on the table celebrating, and why not. Blackpool rises to acclaim Alfie Burden.

"What great scenes here at the Tower Circus and didn't he play superbly.

"I don't think I've ever seen a player get on the table before, but why not, we're not going to be playing anymore frames, are we."

The co-commentator agreed, saying: "I've never seen a snooker player do this, it's quite exceptional. This will be a moment to remember. It's snooker history."
