A ranking of the richest snooker players in the world has made clear just how much Ronnie O'Sullivan has earned.

The 2024 World Snooker Championship began at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield on Saturday, with the best players in the world fighting to take home the £500,000 winner's prize.

The opening day saw the surprise elimination of reigning champion Luca Brecel, with the last year's winner losing 10-9 to David Gilbert.

World number one Ronnie O'Sullivan is looking to win the competition for a record eighth time, but the likes of Judd Trump, Mark Williams and Mark Allen have ambitions of winning themselves.

With £200,000 available to the runner-up, £100,000 going to the semi-finalists and the quarter-finalists taking home £50,000, the World Championship is certainly a lucrative competition.

With that in mind, who are the richest snooker players of all time?

Mark Williams - £4.8m

Three-time world champion Mark Williams is worth a reported £4.8m.

'The Welsh potting machine' would be even richer, had bosses at the Championship not realised they'd erroneously paid him £165,750 instead of 2016 tournament winner Mark Selby.

Another unfortunate incident occurred in 2020, when Williams revealed that fraudsters had emptied his bank account.

Steve Davis - £8m

Davis dominated snooker in the 1980s, winning six of nine World Championship finals.

The 65-year-old is worth £8m, although much of that has come from his other ventures.

After returning in 2016, Davis appeared on I'm A Celeb, has also worked as a commentator with BBC Sport. He has also written 14 books and is a DJ.

Mark Selby - £9.3m

Former World champion Selby is one of the greatest players of all time, and he leads a lifestyle to suit.

The Leicester-born star splashed £215,000 on a Lamborghini Huracan back in 2018 after winning the World Snooker Championships, and lives in a mansion in Leicester complete a playground in the garden and an indoor swimming pool.

Stephen Hendry - £13.2m

Stephen Hendry held the record for seven world titles before it was equalled by O'Sullivan in 2022.

Worth an estimated £13.2m, Hendry appeared in several televised poker tournaments and launched his YouTube channel Stephen Hendry’s Cue Tips last year.

Despite his wealth, in 2011 HM Revenue and Customs liquidated his company Stephen Henry Snooker Ltd after he failed to pay an £85,000 tax bill.

Ronnie O'Sullivan - £32m

Unsurprisingly, the greatest snooker player of all time is the wealthiest.

The 47-year-old is worth a reported £32m, thanks to tournament winnings and sponsorship deals.

O'Sullivan earned a reputation for being the bad boy of snooker, but in recent years he has trade in his luxury car collection - including a Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley and a Porsche - in search of a more low-key life.

He also used to own two luxury canal boats, including one that he put on the market for £129,950.
