Young fan's savage move to sin-binned Jack Wighton caught on camera

Canberra Raiders star Jack Wighton had a torrid time in his side’s 24-14 loss to the Newcastle Knights.

The five-eighth didn’t do himself any favours landing himself on report for two high shots over the game.

He was penalised in the 23rd minute for a rough shot on Lachlan Miller as the Knights fullback attempted to get out of his in-goal.

There was surprise among those on the field and analysts such as Corey Parker when Wighton was allowed to stay on the field despite the hit.

Parker had claimed there ‘was intent’ on Fox League and believed the 2020 Dally M winner should’ve been put in the sin bin.

Wighton went on to score the Raiders’ second try, however, he couldn’t avoid the sin-bin in the 48th minute.

He was deemed to have left the ground for high contact with a brutal hit on Jack Hastings.

The 30-year-old was given his marching orders, and one young fan went on to only rub salt in the wounds.

As Wighton jogged his way to the tunnel a cheeky kid managed to catch him out with the oldest trick in the book.

The fan held out his hand over the tunnel, lulling the Canberra player in for a high-five.

At the last moment, he pulled away leaving Wighton looking like a mug - absolutely savage.

The night only got worse for the Raiders as the Knights went on to score the final points of the day and run out winners.

Wighton admitted that he may be looking at some time on the sidelines as a result of his two hits.

He said: “It happened quick, I was just trying to put on some kick pressure, he was getting away good kicks all day.

“There was no malice in it.

“I’ll have to have a look at it, I don’t know how ugly or if it’s even bad.”

He admitted: “After some of the suspensions lately, I guess you’ll always have to have a bit of fear.”

Wighton’s fate will be decided by the NRL judiciary this week.
