Competitors in the Winter Olympics are set to have their penises inspected and measured in a bizarre practice ahead of participation.
The latest edition of the winter showpiece takes place in Northern Italy in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo and kicks off with the opening ceremony at the iconic San Siro on 6 Feb.
2,900 athletes from more than 90 different National Olympic Committees will compete, with 116 medals up for grabs across a total of eight sports and 16 disciplines - including the debut of ski mountaineering.
But one set of athletes could be subjected to rather unusual measurements beforehand in order to maintain the integrity of the sport.

Ski jumpers is one of the staple sports at the Winter Olympics, debuting in 1924. But there is a huge issue within the sport at the moment as there are suspicions of outrageous methods to gain advantages.

According to German outlet BILD, "penis-gate" is "shaking the world of ski jumping" and there is "heated discussion behind the scenes about testicles and penises".
It's claimed that there are concerns that some athletes are injecting hyaluronic acid into their genitals in a bid to have a better chance of winning.
Crotch stuffing is another method believed to be undertaken by athletes. The surface area of ski jumping suits have a huge effect on performance, specifically stability and floating in the air.
The suits are regulated to millimetres and must match the athlete's body measurements in terms of chest, waist, hips, thighs and more. These measurements happen before each season, with a 3D scanner which determines their stride length, measured from the lowest point in the genital area.

A bigger suit and a larger manhood can aid performance by reducing the rate of descent and there are subtle attempts to achieve those necessary marginal gains.
Previously silicone condoms were a way to cheat the system before the measurements but now acid injection is reportedly being utilised.
Dr. Kamran Karim, a senior consultant at Maria-Hilf Hospital in Krefeld), told BILD: "It is possible to achieve a temporary, visual thickening of the penis by injecting paraffin or hyaluronic acid. However, this does not lengthen it. Such an injection is not medically indicated and is associated with risks."

The FIS (International Ski and Snowboard Federation) are said to be considering measuring stride length manually rather than with the scanner - and the soft issue not being a factor.
Some nations want further measurements to take place before the Olympics get underway.
"Currently, no further measurements are planned," FIS equipment chief Matthias Hafele said on the matter.
“However, we are already working on methods to improve this complex problem.”
Last year, five Norwegian jumpers and three staff members were hit with suspensions for making modifications to suits using a sewing machine, while Timi Zajc of Slovenia was booted out of the Four Hills Tournament for having a suit that was too short.
