An Olympian has reportedly been arrested for buying cocaine at the Paris Games.

An Australian field hockey player has been 'arrested on suspicion of buying cocaine' in Paris, according to a report.

Jean-Baptiste Marty, a European crime reporter, has taken to social media to make the sensational claim.

On X, he wrote: "A member of the Australian field hockey team was arrested last night after buying cocaine on a street in the 9th arrondissement of Paris.

"The seller, carrying 75 ecstasy pills, 3g of 2 MMC and seven vials of cocaine, was also arrested."

The athlete in question is Tom Craig, according to FranceInfo who reported that the 28-year-old 'was arrested while (allegedly) in possession of approximately one gram of cocaine'.

Local prosecutors said he was spotted 'at the foot of a building in the ninth arrondissement' just after midnight.

The source told FranceInfo: "The police arrested two men in the middle of a transaction."

The Narcotics Brigade of Paris police carried out the investigation.

The seller, described as a 17-year-old, was 'behaving like a dealer', said a prosecuting source.

He was seen carrying seven vials of cocaine, 75, ecstacy tablets and 3 grammes of Mephedrone.

Due to his age, the 'dealer' cannot be named.

The Australian Olympic Committee said it 'has confirmed an Australian hockey team member is in custody after being arrested in Paris on August 6'.

The statement added: "No charges have been laid.

"The AOC is continuing to make enquiries and arrange support for the team member."

Both Australian field hockey teams were eliminated from the quarter-finals this week.

The woman's team lost 3-2 to China while the men's side suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands.

SPORTbible have contacted Australian Olympic Committee and Hockey Australia for comment.
