Olympic Star Who Confessed To Cheating Gives Update After His Plea Goes Viral

Sturla Holm Laegreid has revealed what he's heard from his ex-girlfriend after his bizarre interview during the Olympics.

Norwegian Olympic star Sturla Holm Laegreid has provided an update after he broke down in tears admitting he had cheated on his girlfriend.

In what was undoubtedly one of the strangest moments of the 2026 Winter Olympics so far, Norwegian biathlete Laegreid couldn't hold back the tears after picking up a bronze medal.

Of course, athletes crying after winning an Olympic medal is far from a rare sight, but Laegreid's reason for the tears is what came as a surprise.

Instead of tears of joy, the 28-year-old broke down as he admitted on live television that he had cheated on his girlfriend and regretted not being able to celebrate with her.

And now, Laegreid has provided an update on if he has heard from his ex-girlfriend since making the emotional confession after his bronze medal performance at the Games.

Despite heading into the men's 20km Individual race as an underdog, Laegreid impressed as he finished in third behind behind Eric Perrot of France and national teammate Johan-Olav Botn.

Speaking to Norwegian broadcaster NRK after the race, he said: "There's someone I wanted to share this with who might not be watching today.

"Six months ago, I met the love of my life and the most beautiful and kindest person in the world. And three months ago I made my biggest mistake and cheated on her,"

"I had a gold medal in my life...I only have eyes for her.

Laegreid went on to admit that he wasn't sure what he hoped would happen following his confession, but hoped it would make his ex realise how much he loved her.

But now, the Olympic medallist has revealed that he is yet to hear anything from his ex-girlfriend, but remained hopeful that a happy ending was still possible.

"Yeah, I haven't got any reactions from the girl that I mentioned," he told media in Italy.

"And yeah, I'm happy because then maybe she hasn't seen it. Maybe she will see it at the right time.

"I hope I don't make anything worse for her. But maybe it can help, I don't know. I hope there is a happy ending in the end. So we will see what time will do."

He later said he might not have been in the right state of mind to speak immediately after the race, admitting that it may have been selfish to bring attention to his ex-girlfriend, despite not naming her.

"Maybe it was really selfish of me to give that interview," he said a few hours later. "So yeah, I don't know. I was, I'm a bit, I don't know... I'm not really here mentally," he admitted.

"So yeah, we will see what happens."
