'The Mountain' From Game Of Thrones Breaks World Record For The Heaviest Deadlift In History

Hafthor Bjornsson has broken the world record for the heaviest deadlift in history.

The 31-year-old strongman, who played 'The Mountain' from popular TV series Game of Thrones, successfully deadlift 501kg (1,104 lbs) live on his YouTube channel this afternoon.

The 6ft 9in beast smashed the record in front of a small crowd amid the coronavirus crisis.

He breezed through his first two lifts of the day by lifting 420kg and 465kg before creating a new record of 501kg moments later.

The previous record was held by Eddie Hall who lifted 1,102 lbs in 2016.

Bjornsson's world record deadlift sent social media into overdrive.

One social media user wrote: "Damn man smashed 501kg congratulations hafthor new world record holder."

A second tweeted: "The Mountain just deadlifted 501kg!"

A third added: "History made. pulls a massive 501 kg / 1,104lbs deadlift."

In 2018, Bjornsson was named the World's Strongest Man. He finished runner-up at the contest in 2016 and 2017 while taking third place last year.
