A junior hockey team in Canada have been handed a fine after their scout made an inappropriate comment to a TV presenter during a live interview.
The Vancouver Giants compete in the Western Hockey League (WHL) - one of three divisions that make up the Canadian Hockey League which is the top tier of junior hockey in North America.
The WHL held their annual draft this week and Giants scout Terry Bonner spoke to the media after the team had made their selections.
However, the interview was overshadowed by the 85-year-old commenting on presenter Cami Kepkeâs appearance rather than her question about drafting Eli Vickers.

Kepke asked: âCongratulations on a huge pick in Eli Vickers at third overall. What made him a good fit for the Giants organization?â
Bonner replied: âWell thank you very much. You're a good looking girl.â
The WHL have now confirmed the Giants have been handed a $5,000 fine after deeming Bonnerâs comments detrimental to the professional standards of the organisation.
WHL Commissioner Dan Near issued a statement confirming the punishment.
âAccountability is a cornerstone value of our League â that includes both players and staff. In this instance, regardless of intent, the remarks are not reflective of the organization's standards of respect and inclusion,â he said.
Kepke attempted to laugh off the comment but there was an undeniable awkward silence in the studio.
She is yet to speak out over the incident that has gone viral on social media.
Canadian data scientist, Meghan Chayka, commented on the incident via her X profile, writing: âI have thoughts on this as Iâve been in the same position.
â1. We can absolutely want better and correct the situation.
â2. Some people (especially older generations) think theyâre being nice and donât mean it in a hurtful manner.â
Bonner has been a part of the Giants organisation since their inception in 2001 and was promoted to head scout in 2021.
