WWE Superstar Big Cass Targeting Successful Run As A Singles Star

WWE superstar Big Cass intends on embarking on a successful solo career after turning on his long-time friend and tag-team partner Enzo Amore.

The two originally met playing Basketball in New York City before they became a pair in NXT in 2013, and went on to become one of the most popular acts in WWE, and a huge hit the fans.

With the WWE 'Universe' in the palm of their hands, Enzo and Cass, and the catchphrases and trash-talking they brought to the table, were like this era's version of the New Age Outlaws - only that unlike the charismatic duo that came before them, they never tasted success in the many tag team title bouts they had, whether it be in NXT, or on the Raw brand after making their main roster debut the night after Wrestlemania 32.

The constant failings led to Big Cass turning on Enzo a few weeks back when he was announced as the 'mystery attacker' on Raw, saying that his partner was holding him back from achieving greatness in WWE.

And the 7 foot monster says the decision to betray his companion after four years of teaming is one he should have made a long time ago.

"I feel it could have maybe happened a little earlier, it definitely was a long time coming, a long time coming since NXT to be honest with you," he told SPORTbible.

Cass made easy work of his former ally Enzo in his first pay-per-view match as a singles competitor, but has had to contend with the Big Show, as the World's Largest Athlete has been standing up to his fellow giant.

The New York Native is enjoying working with Show, someone who has offered him plenty of advice during his time on the main roster. But now, he sees the seven-time World Champion as nothing more than an opponent that he must leapfrog for the sake of his career.

"Big Show, when I was with Enzo, was very influential - he always helped me out especially so it was always great talking to him and being able to have him critique my stuff but it's a different ball game now. I think being in the same ring as the Big Show, being able to mix it up with him and being able to show the the WWE Universe that I can stand toe-to-toe with the Big Show, like I did last week on Monday Night Raw, I think that's definitely helped me out and hopefully people can see what I'm capable of, not only short term but in the long term.

"It's a different ball game now I'm on my own, the only way to get ahead is to leapfrog people, and get ahead of people. Right now, my goal is to leapfrog the Big Show - it's nothing personal, it's just something I need to do to progress in my career, make more money and being in a bigger spot. It's just something I have to do."

Being seven foot tall, this is the first instance in which Cass has met his match. He was open about the difficulty of the challenge but says fans should get used to him manhandling Big Show, and whoever else in his way, on Monday Night Raw.

"It's definitely an interesting task," he added.

"It's something I've never done before, I've never worked with anybody my size or bigger than me so right off the bat I split up with Enzo and the Big Show steps up, now I've got to mix it up with the Big Show. It's a difficult challenge because he's the Big Show, he's seven feet tall, he's nearly five hundred pounds and he's very tough to mix it up with. It's something I've never done before but I'm looking forward to the challenge.

In terms of his dream opponent as a singles star, Cass is aiming very high. While he fancied a crack at Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at Summerslam, Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns are the Beast's opponents in a fatal four-way main event next month.

But Cass' goal is to main event Wrestlemania with Roman Reigns - the man who has closed out WWE's premier event three years on the trot, with bouts against Brock Lesnar, Triple H and The Undertaker respectively.

"Roman Reigns has main evented three Wrestlemanias in a row and I'd really like to main event Wrestlemania with Roman Reigns. - that's the match I really want right now. Love him, hate him - whatever you think of him it doesn't matter, he's main evented three straight Wrestlemanias and that's almost unprecedented. I think The Rock is the only other guy to have been able to do that - three in a row.

"So right now, currently, [my dream match] is to main event Wrestlemania with Roman Reigns. He's set the bar for Wrestlemania and that's the guy I want to face at Wrestlemania."

SummerSlam airs live on 20 August on WWE Network.
