Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Wii Sports and Mario Kart 8 have all secured their spots in the Guardian's 50 best gaming titles of the 21st century.

Ex-Guardian gaming editor Keith Stuart and current editor Keza MacDonald have compiled the list and ranked the 50 best titles of the era.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 came in 39th place and the Guardian claims that it is 'still probably the best skateboarding game around, and there hasn't been much competition since.'

The fan-favourite Wii Sports, which was released on Nintendo's console in 2006, ranked higher at 28 and Mario Kart 8 came 22nd.

No sports-themed title made the top 20 and the Guardian placed the widely popular Minecraft at the top spot.

Behind Minecraft in second place was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the critically acclaimed Dark Souls came third.
