Steph Curry has repeatedly stated he wishes to spend his entire career at the Golden State Warriors but he did name the one franchise he would play for besides them.

A first round draft back in 2009, Curry has won four NBA championships with the Warriors and cemented himself as one of the greatest players to take to the court.

The 37-year-old's most recent one-year contract extension with the California franchise is said to be worth a whopping $62.6 million and runs through the 2026/27 NBA season.

Three-point king Curry has regularly gone on record to express his desire to be a one franchise player, following in the footsteps of the likes of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.

However, back in 2022 Curry appeared to hint about potentially entertaining the idea of playing elsewhere.

Curry is born and raised in Charlotte, North California and was handed the keys to the city at a special city council ceremony.

And his hometown seemed to think there was a chance of him turning out for the Hornets, formerly the Bobcats.

“I’ve always said I wanted to finish my career out in Golden State because of how much it means to me,” Curry said addressing the crowd who gathered.

“The experiences and teammates and the journey we’ve been on. Everybody ask me, ‘Wouldn’t you want to play one year for the Hornets and come back and see what....’”

When the crowd start applauding, a laughing Curry had to try and let them down gently but did make an eye-catching admission.

"Oh no, don’t do that, don’t do that,” Curry added.

“I am not breaking any news right now, I’m not making any promises. All I would say though is if there was a team that I did want to play for that was not named the Warriors, that would be it. That’s all I can say about that.”

What is the latest on Jonathan Kuminga?

While Curry is committed to the Warriors, there are persistent trade rumours regarding his teammate Jonathan Kuminga.

The 22-year-old, who joined in the 2021 draft, has been heavily linked with a departure - with his rookie contract expiring this summer and Kuminga becoming a restricted free agent.

It's claimed he rejected the Warriors' offer of a new deal and has been offered him a contract in free agency by other teams, though a possible sign-and-trade deal looks unlikely given the fee involved.

In a new update from Sam Amick of The Athletic claims that the Warriors do not wish to get rid of the forward and "expect Kuminga to be on their roster next season".

They also do not want to include either Buddy Hield or Moses Moody in a potential trade even though it would be required for salary purposes.

However, it is noted that with nearly two months remains before Kuminga's qualifying offer deadline, there is still plenty of time for things to change.

Speaking on Kuminga after the Warriors were eliminated in the finals, Curry said: "He's grown a lot. He's been dealt a very tough hand, to be honest.

"Proud of the way he’s handled it. Hope the future is bright for him, whether it’s here or whether it’s wherever.”
