Piers Morgan has slammed what he described as a “disgustingly misogynistic” trend which has emerged in the WNBA.

Over the past two weeks, a rather strange trend has emerged within the WNBA.

Multiple games have been interrupted after sex toys were thrown onto the courts, which has left almost everyone involved confused.

Last Tuesday, Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham was targeted during her side’s 100-91 defeat to the Los Angeles Sparks. What appeared to be a green sex toy was thrown onto the court from the crowd before Kelsey Plum kicked it into the stands.

The incident was the third during WNBA games in just seven days. Several players have since spoken out against the ‘trend’ with Chicago Sky player Elizabeth Williams describing it as “super disrespectful” last week.

Williams said: "I don't really get the point of it. It's really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up."

Minnesota Lynx Head Coach Cheryl Reeve also claimed such incidents were becoming a “distraction”.

"This has been going on for centuries," Reeve said on Thursday. “The sexualization of women. This is the latest version of that. And it's not funny, and it should not be the butt of jokes on radio shows, or in print or any comments."

As reported by BBC News on August 8, two arrests had been made.

In Atlanta, Delbert Carver, 23, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, public indecency/indecent exposure, and criminal trespass after he was accused of throwing a sex toy during a game on July 29.

Kaden Lopez, 18, was also accused of throwing a sex toy at a game in Phoenix on August 5.

Community members from a meme-coin called Green Dildo Coin have taken responsibility for some of the incidents with the aim of gaining attention, although they claim that those arrested are not associated with the group.

On Saturday, X account 'NBACentel' released a 'hoax' story claiming that "All 13 WNBA teams are now required to install safety nets to protect against dildo-throwing incidents, per league officials".

This caused journalist Morgan to reply.

He wrote: "This stupid craze is so disgustingly misogynistic. Stop it."

The Brit seemingly did not realise that the story was fake before the account replied saying: "@piersmorgan GOT CENTEL’ED."

Morgan then commented: "Congrats, you got me [clapping emojis]... But I still think the dildo-throwing craze is disgustingly misogynist."
