LeBron James could be blocked from wearing two of his dream shirt numbers in the NBA next season as speculation about his next destination swirls.
James has become a free agent following the 2025/26 season after deciding against extending with the LA Lakers.
The 41-year-old is determined to add a fifth NBA championship ring to his collection, with his agent Rich Paul stating that James "wants to make every season he has left count".
A whole host of huge franchises are keen on snapping him up, with the Golden State Warriors and the Philadelphia 76ers both in the race for his signature.

However, James could well return to familiar scenery as it's also been reported by the Miami Herald that his former side Miami Heat hold interest in the four-time NBA champion.
Heat brought in Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier in the offseason and are also exploring a move for Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson.
They want to bring James back to the Magic City, a place where he won his first two NBA titles, for a second stint.

While James would appear to be in no major rush to make his call given the new NBA season does not begin until October, ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania said that “it’s decision time” for King as he said “all the information is in.”
Why LeBron James is blocked from wearing three numbers if he makes the Miami Heat return
In his first stint with the Heat after joining from the Cleveland Cavaliers, James wore the No.6 jersey during his four-year stint.
But of course he is synonymous with the No.23, which he has worn for both the Cavs and the Lakers. He even has a Nike shoe with the link to the No.23 and it is a key part of his brand.
However, James will not be able to wear the No.23 at Heat as they retired the number in honour of Michael Jordan.
Despite Jordan never playing for the Heat, the Chicago Bulls icon's legacy was commemorated with the retiring of his number ahead of his final game at the Kaseya Center in 2003.
In the ceremony, Miami's legendary coach Pat Riley said: "In honor of your greatness and for all you've done for the game of basketball - and not just the NBA, but for all the fans around the world - we want to honor you tonight and hang your jersey, No. 23, from the rafters. No one will ever wear No. 23 for the Miami Heat. You're the best.''
Because of that, James was not allowed to wear the No.23 when he moved seven years later.
But he will also not be able to wear the No.6, which has significance because he wore it in the Olympics and his second son was born in June.
The number was retired by every team in the NBA following the death of 11-time NBA champion Bill Russell in 2023 and though he had the option to keep it, James moved back to the No.23 from the No.6 out of respect.
James has worn the No.23 in 16 of his 23 seasons in the NBA, sporting the No.6 in the other seven.
He wore the No.32 in high school but that number is also unavailable at the Heat as it was retired to honour Shaquille O'Neal.
It means if he ends up joining the Heat, James will have to choose a completely different number.
