Chicago Sky star Angel Reese has issued a statement on the United States of America after the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti.

On Saturday, it was reported that 37-year-old Minneapolis resident and ICU nurse Alex Jeffrey Pretti was fatally shot during an immigration enforcement operation.

As per Fox News, the operation was targeting Jose Huerta-Chuma, who is an 'illegal immigrant with a criminal history including domestic assault for intentional conflict bodily harm, disorderly conduct and driving without a valid license'.

It has been alleged that Pretti 'approached Border Patrol agents while armed with a 9mm pistol' and 'violently resisted when they attempted to disarm him'.

Following the shooting, a statement from the Minneapolis Police Department read: "We are aware of reports of another shooting involving federal law enforcement in the area of 26th Street W and Nicollet Ave. We are working to confirm additional details. We ask the public to remain calm and avoid the immediate area. Please follow the city’s social media channels for updates."

Taking to social media, Chicago Sky's Reese did not directly address the shooting but did write: "Praying for our country."

Meanwhile, NBA star Tyrese Haliburton claimed: "Alex Pretti was murdered."

As reported by CNN's Brian Stelter, a statement from the family of Alex Pretti read: "We are heartbroken but also very angry.

"Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman."

The statement continued: "The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed.

"Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you."
