UFC fans are gutted after a surprising result has ruled out any chances of a superfight that could have broken records.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad looked to defend his belt from Australian rising star Jack Della Maddalena at Canada's Centre Bell arena.
Going into the fight, the reigning champion was the heavy favourite, but Della Maddalena defied the odds and won the title in a spectacular five round war.

Although fans were undoubtedly excited by the shock result, this excitement quickly turned to disappointment as they realised that result put to bed any chances of the UFC booking a massive fight that fans have been anticipating for months.
Having dominated the lightweight division for nearly three years, champion Islam Makhachev recently announced his intention to move up to the welterweight division in an attempt to become a two-weight world champion.
However, the Dagestan fighter confirmed that he would only do so if close-friend Muhammad lost on Sunday morning, with UFC boss Dana White revealing that Makhachev would instead defend his belt against former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria should Muhammad successfully defend his belt.

Therefore, with Della Maddalena now crowned as the new welterweight champion, a massive champion vs champion fight with Makhachev in the summer is all but confirmed, yet fans aren't happy.
Reacting to Sunday's result, one fan wrote on X: "We are never getting Ilia Topuria vs Islam Makhachev are we..."
While another disappointed fan added: "JDM has defeated Belal Muhammad in a banger fight, but we just lost Islam Makhachev vs Ilia Topuria ffs."

And one wrote: "And just like that, we have lost the Ilia Topuria vs Islam Makhachev dream."
Since his arrival to the UFC in October 2020, Topuria has quickly risen to the very top of the sport, establishing himself as one of the most popular fighters in recent history in the process.
With a flawless record of 16 wins and zero losses and highlight reel knockout wins over former champion Max Holloway and current champion Alexander Volkanovski, it's no surprise that fans were eager to see him face off against Makhachev for the lightweight belt.
However, it isn't all bad news for UFC fans as Topuria confirmed ahead of Sunday's fight that, should Makhachev decide to move up to welterweight, he would instead face former champion Charles Oliveira for the interim lightweight title.
