Conor McGregor reacts to Makhachev vs. Volkanovski, gets absolutely ripped apart by UFC fans

Islam Makhachev beat Alexander Volkanovski in the main-event of UFC 284.

Conor McGregor has been ripped apart by UFC fans after he shared his thoughts on the UFC 284 main-event between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski.

Makhachev out-pointed Volkanovski to defend his UFC lightweight title in a thrilling bout in Perth, cementing his status as the No.1 pound-for-pound UFC fighter.

The Dagestan star's counter striking and offensive wrestling saw him edge the Australian fighter, who was attempting to become a double champion.

Makhachev vs. Volkanovski was awarded 'Fight of the Night', with both men earning an extra $50,000 for their brilliant performances.

But they didn't impress former UFC double champion McGregor, who slammed the showdown on social media.

"Pound for pound wafflers," he tweeted.

However, the Irishman's tweet didn't go down well among UFC fans as they ruthlessly hit out at the 34-year-old.

One Twitter user wrote: "Poor guy still trying to stay relevant."

A second tweeted: "A lot of talk for someone who’ll get ragdolled by either one."

A third added: "Bro go back to picking a fight with Hasbullah you're literally so finished."

A fourth said: "Says the one who's been waffling for the last 2 years..."

Another taunted: "Pound for pound on Twitter."

Prior to UFC 284, Makhachev had been on an 11-fight win streak while Volkanovski was unbeaten in 12 UFC contests.

They occupied the top two spots in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings, but McGregor doesn't seem to be convinced.

He will have the chance to prove he's not 'finished' as he's set to return to action against Michael Chandler later this year.

He will line up against Chandler as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 31 before meeting in the Octagon.

The 'Notorious' hasn't fought since July 2021 when he suffered a leg-break in his first-round defeat to Dustin Poirier.

What's more, he hasn't won a UFC fight since beating Donald Cerrone back in January 2020.

As for Chandler, he's also coming off a defeat to Poirier, having lost to him at UFC 281 last year.
