Mark Zuckerberg takes home medals after competing in first Jiu Jitsu competition

The social media don is a well-known fan of MMA and combat sports and has been training for a while.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg competed in his first ever Jiu Jitsu tournament, taking home a gold and silver medal for his efforts.

The social media don is a well-known fan of MMA and combat sports and is a good friend of UFC featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski.

He’s been training for a while now and decided to put the practice to the test, looking seriously impressive.

He, of course, took to social media to reveal his triumph.

"Competed in my first jiu jitsu tournament and won some medals for the Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu team," Zuckerberg wrote on his personal Facebook account.

He then gave a shoutout to his trainers and coaches for their hard work in getting him fighting fit.

"Thanks to Dave Camarillo, Khai Wu, and James Terry for training me," he said.

According to BeachGrit, his trainer Khai Wu said Zuckerberg is what they call the 'silent killer'.

"You’d never expect these guys to be able to take you down," he said.

"Next thing you know, they’re attacking you with these extremely technical moves.

"You don’t know this nerd is a silent killer."

It’s good to see the Facebook lad turn his virtual sparring sessions into legit competition.

Just a couple months ago, UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski squared off against none other than Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

But the duo didn't just have a sparring session in a manky old MMA gym.

No, instead they locked horns in the Metaverse.

In the footage, Volkanovski and Zuckerberg are seen wearing those ping pong ball-like suits that are usually used for computer generated images in Hollywood movies.

With cameras attached to their heads, they then transform into their animated 'avatars' before being catapulted from the film studio into the Metaverse.

"What do you think of my gym?" Zuckerberg asks as the two are standing in some sort of cartoon coliseum with a giant tree behind them.

The pair then touch gloves are begin sparring.

The 38-year-old has spoken about his love of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the past in an interview with Joe Rogan.

During his appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, the Silicon Valley tech head revealed what it was like trying the Brazilian version of the combat sport for the first time.

"My mom made me do three varsity sports and my life took a wrong turn when I chose to do fencing competitively instead of wrestling in high school or something," Zuckerberg told Rogan.

"There’s something so primal about it, I don’t know."

He went on to reveal that he had a great admiration for UFC and MMA.

Zuckerberg told Rogan that America's Covid-19 lockdown saw him try his hand at some new sports, both watching and partaking.

"I really like watching UFC, for example, but I also like doing the sport. It’s because I have a connection to it," he said.

"Since COVID, I got super into surfing and foiling, and then really into MMA.

"I know a lot of people who do it.

"There’s actually this really interesting connection between people who surf and do jiu-jitsu."

"The crazy thing is, [jiu-jitsu] really is the best sport."
