RB Leipzig mocked journalist Fabrizio Romano as they announced their record sale of winger Yann Diomande to Spanish club Real Madrid.

The Ivory Coast international has departed the side for a reported €130million after he scored 13 goals in all competitions in 36 appearances for the side last season.

In announcing the 19-year-old’s departure the German club tweeted “HERE WE ACTUALLY GO” in an almost celebratory manner aimed at Romano’s trademark saying “Here We Go,” which he tweets as a transfer nears its completion.

That comes after the Italian journalist received backlash for posting the saying on July 26 alongside proclaiming that the winger would fly to Madrid with the contract signed and reported a fee of over €100million.

However, Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenburg questioned that announcement when he took to X and said: “If there had already been a full agreement between RB Leipzig and Real Madrid, it would be possible to report the exact transfer fee, wouldn't it? The fact is: there still isn't one.

“That continues to be confirmed by RB Leipzig, Real Madrid and the player's camp. If a €100million bid has been rejected, then it's pretty obvious the final fee will be well over €100million, isn't it?”

The 33-year-old responded quickly to the accusations in a perhaps harsher manner after being provoked as he accused the German of fake news regarding the transfer saga as the Italian said: “Don't worry, Diomande goes to Real Madrid as Klopp went to Germany.

“Ask about the fake news yesterday on Man City bidding €100million for Diomande when they've been out for days, and when Madrid were already advancing.”

The drama then took another twist in the following week as the Ivorian was spotted training with his former club despite the fact that Romano said the winger would be flying to Madrid to complete the deal.

Diomande leaves an RB Leipzig side that just finished third in the Bundesliga and 34 points behind eventual league winners Real Madrid and now joins an attack spearheaded by Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr.

However, as Jose Mourinho arrives back at the helm at Real Madrid, Los Blancos are hopeful that they can turn their fortunes around from the past few seasons after new Chelsea and Fulham managers, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa, both disappointed at the helm last term.

Reacting to the transfer, one fan took to X and said: “Call me sportingly blind and utterly naive, but Madrid got thoroughly stripped bare here.”

While another added: “After one season, 13 goals and ten assists in 36 matches across all competitions, Yan Diomande leaves RB Leipzig for Real Madrid. Exemplary business by Leipzig.”

A final one proclaimed: “Getting €130million move after one good season is absolutely nuts. Only Mbappe or Haaland level talent justifies it.”
