Lando Norris has hit back at Fernando Alonso's comments about the development pace of rival F1 teams ahead of the British Grand Prix.

On Sunday, the Formula One grid will arrive for arguably the best race of the annual race calendar at the at iconic Silverstone race track.

Last year, the British Grand Prix secured it's place in the F1 history books as 239 race starts later, Nico Hulkenberg finally got his first podium with a career-best performance for Kick Sauber.

Ahead of the 2026 British Grand Prix, all eyes will be on the British drivers with Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes driver George Russell both among the favourites for both the race win and the Drivers' Championship title.

Following his win at Silverstone last year, reigning champion Norris is also once to watch as the McLaren driver looks for his first race win this season.

Thankfully for Norris, he will have the benefit of the first of several upgrades that McLaren are expected to introduce over the summer as the Woking-based team are one of several bringing upgrades to Silverstone.

One team that will not be upgrading their car for the British GP is Aston Martin, who have arguably had the worst start to the season of any team, scoring just one point this season so far.

Aston Martin currently plan to bring one singular major modification to elevate its car during the summer break, rather than drip-feeding upgrades weekly like its rivals, something that Alonso criticised due to budget cap restraints.

“I didn't agree [with delaying the development step until summer],” Alonso told media during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend.

“But apparently there is no money to bring upgrades, unlimited upgrades like the other teams do. Which is surprising to see the FIA document on Friday every race [in which teams must list and explain the purpose of all externally visible changes].

“Maybe they [the other teams] have the money machine in the minus one [basement] in the factory…”

Lando Norris responds to Fernando Alonso budget cap criticism

Alonso's comment clearly riled up Norris, who addressed his rival's claims ahead of the British Grand Prix, insisting drivers are not in the loop about their team's finances.

"I think the drivers talk too much,” Norris told the media.

“They don't have a Scooby-Doo. They're not the accountants. They don't really know how it works.”

The British driver continued, criticising Alonso's decision to comment about other team's strategies regarding upgrades, suggesting Aston Martin have simply been too slow to adapt.

“I'm not surprised at all,” he said. “I think it depends how quickly you're onto things.

“It depends how much time you spend per item, time in the wind tunnel, all these little things.

“It's also efficiency of how you get parts made and get parts done.

“So I don't think people can talk about other teams. Every team is doing better than the other team and you have to outperform them in every way possible."
