Ferrari will roll out incredible 'magic trick' at Austrian GP that no other rival has mastered

The Italian manufacturers are bringing a major upgrade to double down after Lewis Hamilton's win

Ferrari are reportedly bringing a new upgrade to the Austrian Grand Prix that has been described as a 'magic trick' that could change everything.

After 15 months as a Ferrari driver, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton finally claimed his first Formula One race win in red at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

The surprise win puts the British driver firmly in the conversation for the 2026 title as he now has 115 points, leaving him just 51 behind championship leader Kimi Antonelli.

Of course, in order to keep Hamilton in the running for the title, Ferrari will need to continue developing the car to catch up with Mercedes, who are widely considered to have built the fastest car this season.

But it appears the Italian manufacturer are doing just that as they will introduce an engine upgrade at the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix after the FIA revealed that their engine was actually four to six percent off the pace.

This revelation will allow Ferrari to make use of the ‘ADUO’ catch-up mechanism outlined in the new regulations, designed to help trailing Power Unit (PU) manufacturers close the gap to the without artificially penalising the leaders.

And it appears that Ferrari are using this to double-down on a surprising decision made earlier in the season that saw them channelling air into their engine at 100 degrees despite the fact that their rivals were aiming for 70-80.

Although this cost them some efficiency, Ferrari claim that it allowed them to make extreme aerodynamic design choices that have paid off so far.

According to Motorsport IT, Ferrari are now pushing for a new ‘unseen limit’ of 110 degrees described as a 'magic trick' that leads to a more compressed fluid.

When combined with their new 'higher-calorie’ shell fuel that will be in use in Austria, Ferrari will be able to burn more particles while releasing fewer emissions.

Previous reports suggested that the upgrade was initially expected to land at the Belgian Grand Prix in July, but Ferrari managed to fast track it to make the most of the momentum gained with Hamilton’s win in Barcelona.

Ferrari then plan to introduce a second update ahead of their most important race of the year: the Italian Grand Prix in early September.

Lando Norris claims Ferrari will 'dominate' rivals following engine upgrade

The news will no doubt raise alarm bells across the F1 grid as McLaren driver and reigning champion Lando Norris admitting that Ferrari will 'embarrass' their rivals if they can maximise their engine thanks to their superior chassis.

"We are lucky that Ferrari don't have a better engine at the minute. If they had a better engine, they would be dominating," Norris told Sky Sports F1 in Barcelona.

"They are the class of the field in terms of cornering performance and we are not even close to them. We are a long, long way from where we need to be. If they make improvements on the engine side, they will embarrass everyone."
