Xavi Simons has a strange release clause in his contract that could see him leave PSV Eindhoven for just €6million, it has been claimed.

The PSV midfielder was one of his club’s stand-out performers last term, claiming 21 goals and 12 assists across 47 appearances in all competitions.

Such showings have seen him listed alongside Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala as a Golden Boy nominee, and linked to some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Indeed, the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal are all thought to be interested in the Netherlands international.

And while Simons is valued at €30million (£25million) by Transfermarkt, there is reportedly a clause in his contract that could see him depart PSV for just €6million (£5.15million).

Xavi Simons’ release clause

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed Paris Saint-Germain inserted a buy-back clause in Simons’ contract that would allow them to sign the player for just £5.15million.

However, the clause can reportedly only be activated in July.

Simons left the Ligue 1 giants for PSV last summer after struggling for game-time in the French capital.

On the 20-year-old’s contract situation, Romano tweeted: “Paris Saint-Germain’s buy-back clause for Xavi Simons is just €6m! It can only be activated in July, from 1 to 31st.

“The final decision is ONLY up to the player. He’s waiting to hear from PSG. Man Utd, Arsenal, Brighton, Spurs, BVB and Leipzig asked to be informed.”

Earlier this season Simons indicated that he would not consider a return to PSG at this stage, adding that he felt settled at PSV.

“It is a clause between me and PSV. Not between me and Paris Saint-Germain,” Simons told reporters earlier this season via the Mirror.

“It’s a clause that, if I wanted to go to PSG, I could leave for a certain amount at the end of the season.

“To be honest, it’s not in my head to leave. I’m settled here, I feel good here. You can also see that on the field I think.

“I came here on a free transfer, so I have no obligations to anyone. I’m the one who has to make the choice.”
