Everton interested in signing Wout Weghorst with Man Utd not interested in permanent deal

Weghourst's time at Old Trafford has not made him a must-keep player for Erik ten Hag so he needs a new option for next season.

Wout Weghorst could be offered a chance to stay in the Premier League despite his time at Manchester United not going according to plan, with Everton interested in signing the striker.

I can still remember the shock when I sat in the very seat I'm writing this article from right now as the news broke that Weghorst looked to be on the way to United.

At the time the striker had just returned from the World Cup, where he scored a brilliant brace against Netherlands and thoroughly p***ed off Lionel Messi.

The 30-year-old waved goodbye to loan side Besiktas and then made his way to Old Trafford on a temporary deal until the end of the season.

His previous spell in England's top tier saw him score just twice for Burnley, fail to keep them in the Premier League and essentially get Sean Dyche sacked.

He did help United win the Carabao Cup and scored an important FA Cup semi-final penalty but outside of that his time at the club hasn't gone particularly well.

The fact he was Ten Hag's only option off the bench on Saturday's FA Cup final loss to Manchester City whilst they kept Julian Alvarez on the bench told the difference in quality between the two squads and their use of transfer spend over the years better than anything else.

With all that in mind it would come as a surprise to find that Dyche wants to take charge of the Dutchman for a second time at Goodison Park.

However according to talkSPORT, that's exactly the situation with the Toffees interested in signing him this summer with United not going to make his move from Burnley permanent.

Across his spell with two English clubs the former Wolfsburg striker has played 51 times in all competitions and only scored four goals.

His previous four full campaigns in the Bundesliga and Eredivisie had seen him score at least 15 goals in the league but it hasn't transferred to the Premier League.

As well as United not interested in signing him permanently it's unlikely that Vincent Kompany would want to keep him at Turf Moor, despite Ashley Barnes leaving the club.

Dyche only just avoided his team being the ones to replace his former side in the Championship on the final day of the league campaign, sparking a pitch invasion.

Everton struggled for goals during the season and weren't helped by the regular absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin through injury.
