Pundit who left World Cup game early reveals her mother was killed

Nadia Nadim left the studio during Denmark's 0-0 draw with Tunisia and she's revealed the heartbreaking reason why.

ITV pundit Nadia Nadim has revealed that she left Denmark's game with Tunisia early after receiving the heartbreaking news of her mother's death.

Danish international Nadim is part of ITV's coverage during the tournament in Qatar this winter, and was in the studio for her country's opening group game.

She gave her analysis ahead of kick off and later at half time, during the 0-0 draw, but she had left the studio when they returned following the full time whistle.

At the time, the TV channel did mention that the Racing Louisville striker had left due to an 'emergency' but hadn't given any further details.

Now the 34-year-old has shared the shocking details of her absence, revealing the awful news that her mother had died after being hit by a truck whilst walking home.

"Tuesday morning my mother was killed by a truck. She was on her way back from the gym," Nadim said on social media.

"Words cannot describe what I’m feeling. I have lost the most important person in my life and it happened so sudden and unexpected. She was only 57. She was a warrior who had fought for every inch of her life.

"She didn’t give me life once but twice, and everything I/ we are is because of her. I have lost my home and I know nothing is gonna ever feel the same. Life is unfair and I don’t understand why her and why this way. I love you and I will see you again.

"Her funeral is going to be soon, (more information to follow). Please come and show her the love, respect and prayers she deserves."

The former Manchester City star has an incredible story, having fled from Afghanistan, after the Taliban took her father when she was just 11-years-old.

Six months after his abduction, Nadim and her family were informed that her father had been killed by the militant political movement.

After finding herself in a refugee camp in Denmark, which is where her curiosity and eventual love of football would flourish.

She eventually started her professional career playing for B52 Aalborg, and spent the first 10 years of her career in Denmark, before moving to the United States of America.

Nadim has since played for PSG and City, before heading back to the US to play for Louisville, and has amassed 103 caps for Denmark.

Earlier this year she qualified as a doctor.

ITV have been contacted by LADbible about whether or not she will return to their studio before the end of the World Cup.
