England have immediately qualified for another UEFA tournament fans might not be aware of after beating Spain in the Euro 2025 final.

The Lionesses retained their European Championship crown with a thrilling penalty shootout victory, following a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Mariona Caldentey opened the scoring for Spain before Alessia Russo hit back with a fantastic header.

After a rollercoaster of emotions in the penalty shootout, which included two saves from England's Hannah Hampton, Chloe Kelly stepped forward to clinch the title.

Despite leading for just four minutes and 52 seconds throughout the tournament's knockout stage, the Lionesses defeated the pre-game favourites.

Now they have the opportunity to win another major trophy after they qualified for the Women's Finalissima.

It is an intercontinental super cup match organised by CONMEBOL and UEFA.

The winners of the Copa America Femenina face the UEFA Women's Championship victors, with the game taking place once every four years.

It is a one-off match, with no replays or second legs, and it was first played following the return of the Men's Finalissima in 2022.

The Lionesses are the current holders of the title following their triumph over Brazil in 2023.

Ella Toone opened the scoring in that match before Brazil equalised in added time - taking the game to penalties, where England won 4-2.

Who will England play in the 2025 Finalissima?

England will not have to wait long to find out their opponent when they seek to retain their crown.

The Copa America Femenina is currently underway in Ecuador, with the final on August 2.

In the semi-finals, Argentina face Colombia, while Brazil will take on Uruguay.

Brazil are strong favourites to win the Copa America, so a rematch of the 2023 game looks likely.

How did England win Euro 2025?

After a defeat in the opening game to France, England looked set for a difficult tournament.

But convincing victories over the Netherlands and Wales ensured progression into the knockout stages.

England continued to make life hard for themselves, coming back from two goals down against Sweden to take their quarter-final to penalties.

Only five of the 14 penalties taken were converted, but the Lionesses advanced.

In the semi-finals, a late equaliser from Michelle Agyemang rescued England against Italy, before Chloe Kelly's late winner in extra-time.

That set up a repeat of the 2023 World Cup final, which Spain won 1-0.

This time however it was England who emerged victorious to win their second European Championship.
