Who Is Darwin Núñez And How Will He Fit In At Liverpool?

All you need to know about Darwin Nunez

Liverpool are on the verge of signing the superstar forward Darwin Núñez from Benfica, and the club have been told it will take a staggering £85m to prise the Uruguayan striker away from the Portuguese side.

Núñez got 32 goals across all competitions this season and has certainly been in stellar form in both the Primeira Liga and Champions League. With the imminent departure of Sadio Mane, with Munich being the most likely destination for the Senegalese forward, Liverpool are crying out for someone to fill his goalscoring void, and despite being only 22, Núñez has proven he has all the qualities to be more than an adequate replacement.

This season, Liverpool have sometimes struggled to break down low blocks, with May’s draw against Tottenham being a recent example. Whilst Núñez is a strong man and can bring others in to play with his exceptional link play, he is also a very direct forward, and can take players on with his frightening pace which is essential for success when facing low blocks. Alongside Diaz and Salah, the addition of the Uruguayan would make Liverpool’s front three a terrifying prospect for opposition defences.

Although this is a Liverpool side that certainly doesn't struggle with scoring goals in most games, having a prolific number 9 in the team like Núñez would turn the European finalists into an exceptionally frightening side. This season, he leads both Salah and Mane in goals, goals per game, mins per goal, conversion rate and accuracy - an undeniably impressive feat and is obvious as to why Klopp is such a serious admirer of the striker.

With world-class playmakers like Thiago, Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the team, it is hard to see Núñez struggling to score goals if he did arrive in the Premier League.
