Virgil van Dijk sent brutal Liverpool message after training footage emerges

Virgil van Dijk has been criticised by Liverpool fans after footage emerged of James Milner getting the better go him in training

Liverpool fans have criticised defender Virgil van Dijk after a video emerged of veteran James Milner getting the better of the Liverpool captain in training.

Van Dijk, 31, signed for The Reds for around £70 million back in 2018 and quickly rose to be one of the first names on the team sheet for Jurgen Klopp, playing a key role in securing the 2018/19 Champions League and the Premier League in the following season.

The defender capped off an impressive period in his career with the UEFA Player of the Year award and runner-up in the Ballon d'Or voting, but has seemingly dropped off from his previous levels of form in a Liverpool shirt throughout the 2022/23 season.

The drop in form from the Netherlands international has lead to a portion of the fanbase criticising their captain, although not solely responsible for the poor showings from the team, who find themselves eighth in the Premier League.

The criticism has since continued more recently after footage emerged of 37-year-old James Milner getting the better of his teammate in training.

Here is what fans had to say on the footage...

@oyoskat: Your stupid aura ball has caused us a lot. It’s time you go make tackle. Don’t be scared of getting dribbled passed.

@GalDAcee9: He’s actually done

@firrannoying: Oh lord.

@3500forthegoat: We have to talk about it.

@virgilsupremacy: He might be washed.

Van Dijk will now have an opportunity to redeem himself as Klopp's men prepare to face Premier League leaders Arsenal at Anfield this afternoon (4:30 pm kick-off).

Liverpool are currently without a win since the impressive 7-0 victory over Manchester United in March, after suffering defeats to both Bournemouth and Manchester City in recent weeks.
