Liverpool are sitting in a Champions League place with one Premier League fixture left to play in 2025-26 but they're not yet over the line.
The Reds have endured a lacklustre season and are poised to salvage the bare minimum just a year on from winning the Premier League in their first season under manager Arne Slot.
Even after a busy and expensive summer transfer window last year, a degree of squad surgery is likely.
Mohamed Salah will leave Anfield after the final game of the season, bringing an end to nine successful years with the Merseyside giants.

Left-back Andy Robertson has also confirmed that he's leaving Liverpool and a social media post from Reds skipper Virgil van Dijk, who signed a new contract last year to end a long period of speculation about his own future, has set tongues wagging about two more potential departures.
"Thankful and grateful for our journey together!" the Dutch international posted on Instagram on Saturday. "One more to go and a send-off you deserve."
The accompanying picture featured the 33-year-old with Salah and Robertson but the trio was flanked by two more Liverpool stars, sparking questions over whether Van Dijk had inadvertently revealed news of a couple of imminent and unannounced exits.
Standing stage-right of Van Dijk is fellow defender Joe Gomez, who joined the Reds in 2015 and whose 29th birthday it is today.
At the other end of the quintet is Alisson, Liverpool's Brazilian goalkeeper, who will turn 34 later this year.
One fan wrote: "Why are Joe and Ali there..."
A second wrote: "Hope this pic doesn't suggest Ali and Joe are leaving too."
A third said: "Does this mean Gomez and Alisson are also leaving?!"
Could Alisson and Gomez leave Liverpool this summer?
Alisson and the former Charlton Athletic defender have won the Champions League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup and the Premier League twice during their time at Anfield.
Both players will be out of contract next summer, meaning the forthcoming transfer window is the last realistic opportunity for Liverpool to bring in a fee for either or both of them.
Given the need to put together a team capable of turning the tide after a poor season by Liverpool's recent standards, it's easy to see how that could be tempting.
Liverpool are the only team in the Champions League chase who can't benefit from Aston Villa winning the Europa League.
The fifth-placed Reds can overtake Villa with a three-point swing on the final day of the Premier League season. If they do, it will add a sixth Champions League place.
But if Villa finish fourth, only fifth will do. Liverpool could be caught by Bournemouth and drop out of the top five, albeit only with a significant shift in goal difference.
