Victor Osimhen publicly admits he 'dreams' of playing in the Premier League, he's a wanted man

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has opened up about his Premier League dream after being named 'best foreign athlete in Italy' by the press.

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen says he will continue to work hard to achieve his dream of one day playing in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old Nigeria international, who has scored 21 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions for Serie A leaders Napoli this season, continues to be linked with a host of top European clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal.

It looks increasingly likely he will leave the Italian club this summer and with rumours swirling over his immediate future, Osimhen has made his feelings refreshingly clear while speaking to the press on Monday.

After claiming the Best Foreign Athlete award in Italy, the former Wolfsburg and Lille striker suggested a move to England could be on the horizon.

He said: “I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world (Serie A) is an amazing feeling for me.

“A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and the strongest league but now I’m in one of the best leagues in the world which is the Italian Serie A.

“I’m working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League some day but like I said, it’s a process and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well.”

Osimhen has attracted the interest of several top clubs, but it looks like Premier League leaders Arsenal are the current favourites to snap him up for a record-breaking price.

That's according to Italian outlet Rai, who claim Mikel Arteta's side are ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea in the race.

The report also value Osimhen at an eye-watering £133 million, which would smash the British transfer record if a deal gets over the line.

United, meanwhile, will likely try and sign a centre-forward in the summer window and former defender Rio Ferdinand says he "wouldn't be disappointed" if they bring in either Harry Kane or Osimhen.

“I think United are looking to sign a striker, there’s no secrets around it,” he told William Hill.

“Wout Weghorst was maybe a short-term option, although I think he has offered a lot and is doing everything that the manager would have wanted.

“There are two options that jump out at you. I think Victor Osimhen, in terms of form and being that out-and-out number nine striker, is arguably in better form than anyone in the world at the moment.

"Harry Kane is also someone people are talking about – there may be contract negotiations with Tottenham coming up, or perhaps he’d be looking to move. If that were to be the case, then I wouldn’t be disappointed with either.

“I think signing a number nine who can score 20-25 goals a season is something that the club are looking to do.”
