The Dimitri Payet saga has officially come to an end.

West Ham have finally succumbed to Marseille's advances by agreeing to sell him for £25 million, per Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol.

The Frenchman refused to play for West Ham after telling the club he wanted out to return and Slaven Bilic promptly excluded him from first-team matters but said he did not wish to sell the French international.

The 29-year old was made to train with the Under 23's, omitted from a West Ham player's chat and supporters have let him know exactly what they thought of him.

Reports emerged that Payet had his car vandalised, his windows of his home egged as well as West Ham fans debuting a new, explicit version of the Payet chant that they had been singing about the former fan favourite ever since he joined the club.

West Ham rejected two bids from Marseille but after sealing a deal for top target Robert Snodgrass, they have granted Payet's wish and allowed him to return to Marseille for a fee said to be in the region of £30 million.

Marseille enquired about the possibility of re-signing on loan and then having the forced option to buy him permanently, but West Ham were not in favour.

The Hammers were demanding £35 million for their wantaway talisman but the fact that only Marseille were in for him and Payet did not want anything other than a return for his former club led to West Ham lowering their asking price slightly and ultimately allowing the deal to go through.

The East Londoners are reportedly planning to use part of the funds they received for Payet by making an attempt to sign Brentford striker Scott Hogan before the January window ends.
