Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been dealt a big transfer blow ahead of the summer transfer window.

Wrexham are currently gearing up for life in League One after they managed to secure back-to-back promotions from Non-League to League Two and then to the third tier.

Over the last few weeks, the Red Dragons have been linked with a host of different players, including Leicester City man Jamie Vardy.

The striker’s contract with the Foxes was set to run out at the end of the 23/24 season.

When asked about signing the Englishman, Wrexham executive Humphrey Kerr said to SPORTbible: “There's nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn't be a great Wrexham player. It's not a name I've had mentioned inside the building before but, you know, age and profile wouldn't put us off.”

However, it was confirmed on Friday afternoon that Vardy has signed a new deal with Leicester.

The 37-year-old said: “I’m absolutely delighted. Obviously, the target at the start of last season was to get back into the Premier League and to do it the way we did and win the league, everyone was over the moon. It was a great season.

“I think what a lot of people don’t realise is that everyone was saying we had the best squad, but nothing is ever won on paper. We’ve got to go and put performances in, and you saw last season with how we were playing and getting the points, it worked wonders for us.”

Vardy continued: “I look after myself. I’ve always said that age is just a number. My legs feel fine so that’s why I carry on until my legs say that’s it, game over. There will be a day when that comes, but that’s not right now.

“It’s one of those where I don’t give myself chance to reflect on it. The season finishes and you just want to forget about football. I think it’s going to be that I reflect more once my career is actually over.”
