Former Premier League striker snubs shock move to Wrexham after previous feud with the club

A former Premier League striker has decided against a potential move to Wrexham in order to join another club, it has been reported.

Wrexham won the National League last season, and have been competing around the promotion places in League Two this term.

Their most recent campaign saw them embark on a long run in the FA Cup, and they reached the fourth round of the competition before being defeated in a replay by Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

But speaking after the match, Blades captain Billy Sharp described Wrexham players as 'disrespectful', and added: "A few things before the game, thinking they were already through. I'm glad we've beaten them.

"I wasn't happy with a few of their players tonight but that's it now, we've got one over on them. Good luck to them for promotion but hopefully we'll put that one to bed because I wasn't happy with a few of their players.

"I wasn't happy with the way they've been as a club before the game eyeing up Spurs [fifth round opponents]. They've not even beaten us."

Given their feud, you might think it inconceivable that Sharp would ever end up as a Wrexham player.

But after the 37-year-old was released by the Blades last summer, and had a short spell at LA Galaxy, Sharp is currently a free agent once again.

And when asked about a move to the Welsh club on William Hill's 'No Tippy Tappy Football' podcast last month, he responded: "I don't hold grudges. If that were one of my better options, why not?"

If Sharp was willing to wait around for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to offer him a contract, however, it appears he has now found a better option.

According to Radio Humberside's Mike White, Sharp has signed for Hull until the end of the season.

Tigers owner Acun Ilicali had revealed that the club had already signed one player before the January window on Monday, although did not name the player.

Sharp will join a Hull side who are flying high under the stewardship of Liam Rosenior, who is rated as one of the best managers outside of the Premier League.

The Tigers are currently in sixth place in the Championship, having won six of their last 10 games.

Sharp has been a reliable source of goals in the EFL throughout most of his career, although did only net two goals in 37 appearances for the Blades during his final season with the club.

He was named in The Guardian's Football League Team of the Decade between 2010 and 2019, alongside other EFL icons such as James Coppinger, Paul Gallagher and Ben Mee.
