Wrexham could be on track to make their biggest signing yet, with an ex-Premier League striker keen to join despite a previous feud with the club.

Since the sensational takeover of Wrexham by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the Welsh club have been on a rollercoaster journey that has seen them promoted to League 2.

Wrexham currently sit second in the league, five points behind league leaders Stockport and ahead of third-placed Barrow on goal difference.

One of the highlights of Wrexham's recent success was taking Sheffield United to an FA Cup replay in January of this year, with an incredible 3-3 draw.

The Welsh side side were only denied a place in the next round by a 95th-minute equaliser, and unfortunately went on to lose the replay 3-1 at Bramall Lane.

One of the major talking points across the two matches involved Blades striker Billy Sharp, who was not impressed with Wrexham's attitude.

Sharp stated after the tie: "I think they've been disrespectful with a few things before the game, thinking they were already through."

He added: "I'm glad we've beaten them."

The English striker continued to vent his frustrations: "They thought we would just roll over when they got back in it, and I think the referee was helping them as well."

Sharp left Sheffield United for the third time to join LA Galaxy in the summer, and scored five more times in the MLS than Lionel Messi, with six goals in 12 matches.

Sharp has since been released by the US club, and recently spoke about the possibility of joining Wrexham despite his previous comments.

"I don't hold grudges. If that were one of my better options, why not," Sharp said speaking on the William Hill's 'No Tippy Tappy Football' podcast.

The 37-year-old is best known for his goal-scoring abilities in the EFL so a move could potentially make a lot of sense.
