Napoli prepared to use Scott McTominay to bring shock Premier League player to Italy

McTominay has had huge success since moving to Napoli from Manchester United last summer.

Napoli will reportedly use Scott McTominay to help persuade a Premier League star to sign for the club this summer.

McTominay has been one of the biggest success stories of world football this season, scoring 11 goals in 31 Serie A appearances and playing a key role in Napoli's title battle.

He was signed from Manchester United last summer for £25.7 million as new manager Antonio Conte looked to reshape the club's midfield.

He was joined in Naples by international team-mate Billy Gilmour and ex-Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, meaning the Napoli side this season has had a very Premier League feel to it.

According to The Sun, Conte wants to add another Premier League star to his squad, with Manchester City's Jack Grealish of keen interest.

The Italian has gained a reputation for revitalising careers, and Grealish has largely fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola over the past season.

He has started just one Premier League match in 2025, with his other four starts coming in the FA Cup.

Grealish played a key role in helping City to win their third consecutive Premier League title in 2022/23, with 12 goal contributions.

But he has scored just three goals in all competitions this season amid fan criticism that manager Pep Guardiola's system is not getting the best out of his talents.

Guardiola himself personally apologised to Grealish earlier this season, stating in February: "I'm so sorry he doesn't get the minutes that maybe he deserves.

"But, [in] the end, the contributions from Jeremy [Doku] or Savinho have been massive this season. This is the only reason why. It's not personal, or I don't like Jack, or I don't have confidence in him."

It is claimed that Napoli will now use McTominay's example to convince the 29-year-old to make the move to Italy, where he would become only the fourth English player to represent the club.

Axel Tuanzebe and Nathaniel Chalobah have both had loan spells in Naples over recent years, while centre-half Leslie Minter was one of the official co-founders of the club in their original guise of SSC Napoli and played for them between 1926 and 1927.
