A clear favourite has emerged to sign Raheem Sterling after he was left out of Chelsea’s squad against Manchester City.

The Blues welcomed reigning Premier League champions City to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as the Enzo Maresca era officially began.

Pep Guardiola’s men came away 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic.

Prior to kick-off, it was confirmed that Sterling was left out of Chelsea’s playing squad for the match, which resulted in the forward’s representatives releasing a statement seeking clarity regarding his future.

When asked about his decision to leave Sterling out, Maresca said: “It’s just a technical decision, nothing else to say.

“Managers are paid to make decisions and sometimes players don’t like it.”

With Sterling’s future uncertain, Italian Serie A giants Juventus have emerged as the clear favourites to sign the 29-year-old.

As per Sky Bet, Juventus are priced at 2/1 to sign Sterling, with Crystal Palace(10/1), Everton(10/1), Fenerbahce(10/1), West Ham United(10/1) and Newcastle United(14/1) all tipped to be in the race for the Englishman before the transfer window closes. All odds were correct at the time of writing.

The statement from Sterling’s camp read: “Raheem Sterling is contracted to Chelsea Football Club for the next three years. He returned to England two weeks early to conduct individual training, and has had a positive pre-season under the new coach, who he has developed a good working relationship with.

“He is committed, as ever, to delivering at the highest level for Chelsea FC and the fans, who he holds in high regard, and given his inclusion in official club pre-match material this week, our expectation was that Raheem would be involved in this weekend’s fixture in some capacity.”

It continued: “As a camp, we have always had positive dialogue with, and assurance from, Chelsea FC in relation to Raheem’s future at the club, so we look forward to gaining clarity on the situation.

“Until then, we will continue to support Raheem’s desire to start the new season positively.”
