PSG star terminates contract hours before the transfer deadline

PSG have been incredibly busy in the transfer window this summer as they look to evolve under Luis Enrique and aim to win a third consecutive Champions League.

The French side acquired several high-profile players, including Maghnes Akliouche, Ferran Torres, and Mika Godts.

However, the story of their transfer window has been the fees they got for their outgoings, as it has been reported that they have accumulated a total of €360 million, a record sales figure for the club.

Those who have departed the French capital include Bradley Barcola, as he moved to Liverpool, Ibrahim Mbaye, who joined Aston Villa, and Goncalo Ramos, who made the move to AC Milan.

While this fee of €360 million is an incredible figure, it must be noted that they allowed a total of four players to leave for free before the Deadline Day this summer.

Now, this figure has grown to five as they bid farewell to a European Championship winner, with this individual winning the Young Player of the Tournament at that edition of the competition.

Just hours before the transfer deadline, Renato Sanches had been reported to have terminated his contract with PSG, according to Record Portugal.

The 29-year-old, who won the European Championship with Portugal in 2016, has endured a tough four-year spell with the Ligue 1 side, after failing to find consistent game time due to suffering injuries and being sent out on loan spells.

Sanches joined PSG from Lille in the summer of 2022, having won the Ligue 1 title with Les Dogues, before he won the French top-flight again in 2023 with the Parisians.

Yet after his first season, he would spend the next three seasons on loan across different European top flights as he played for Roma, Benfica, and Panathinaikos.

At these three clubs, he only managed 31 appearances across Serie A, Primeira Liga, and the Super League Greece.

This decision to terminate his contract may be perfect for Sanches to attempt to revitalise his career, as only a few days ago there were links regarding the midfielder making the move to La Liga club Sevilla.

Now, as a free agent, this deal might be easier for the Spanish club, as the 29-year-old looks to reignite what had promised in his early years to be a fine career.
